In this edition of “Conversations with…” we sat down with Katie Cook in our Employee Benefits Department, to learn more about her career and her life outside of work.
- What is your favorite part about your role at Cavignac?
My favorite part of my role at Cavignac is learning about life and health insurance and sharing that knowledge with people to help them get the care they need. I have learned so much and come so far in the past year that I’ve been at Cavignac and continue to learn new things every day. The world of insurance is constantly evolving and as someone who loves to learn and challenge myself, this is one of my favorite parts of this industry. Being able to then share this specialized, yet vital, knowledge with our clients and their employees to better help them understand and navigate the world of healthcare makes my role meaningful and impactful. Any day I can help someone get the care they need or better understand their healthcare is a great day.
- What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to embrace change and accept that things don’t always pan out the way we planned. When one door closes, another opens. When I graduated from college, I had a specific vision for my career that ended up not being the best path for me. Choosing to let that go was incredibly difficult at the time but was the best thing I could’ve done for myself. I am incredibly happy with where I am now and so grateful that I made the choices that led me here.
- What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
My favorite thing to do outside of work is travel! I had the privilege to study abroad in Rome and now try to visit a new country (or two) every year if I can. I spent two weeks in Thailand and Singapore earlier this year and am now planning a trip to Croatia. I love being able to see and experience new things and appreciate other cultures while exploring the world. I also love to solo travel and highly encourage everyone to try it at least once!
- What is one way that you have grown personally or professionally since joining Cavignac?
I’ve become more confident in myself and my abilities since joining Cavignac. Entering the health insurance industry is a whirlwind with lots to learn and a large volume of clients, all with unique needs. I’m proud of how quickly I was able to pick things up and service accounts and have since become more comfortable taking the lead with both clients and industry contacts. The team was incredibly supportive and helpful during my training period and gave me the tools to be both confident in myself and in my work, which has made me successful in my role.
