Cavignac Committee Series – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The reason we are able to do the work we do is attributed to the individuals that come to work with us each day. Each person that makes up the company and culture that is Cavignac, has been molded by different sets of beliefs, values, ideologies and practices. In order for us to work together and do our jobs to the best of our abilities, it is helpful to understand these different facets to our colleagues. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee works to educate our colleagues on ways to celebrate and honor the cultures and backgrounds that make up our organization.

Over the course of the last several months, the DEI committee implemented the Genealogy Educate and Learn Potluck, a project encouraging our colleagues to celebrate their backgrounds and embrace the heritages of their fellow team members. Our colleague, Julie Plemmons, shared her expertise on the topic and her personal experience in tracing her ancestors back many generations. Julie’s fascinating presentation was followed by a potluck hosted by our DEI committee. Sharing food can be a simple and enjoyable way to bring people together and this initiative did just that. Our team brought in different dishes that represented their heritage and upbringing, giving us a taste of each other’s backgrounds and allowing us to share our individual childhood memories.

This event sparked conversations surrounding each of our traditions and values that trace back generations and how they continue to shape the lives of our colleagues each day. We are fortunate to have a committee that prioritizes educating our organization on the importance of diversity and we look forward to continuing to honor diversity in our workplace.
